Museum gardens designated a “Canada 150 Garden Experience”

The Farm Museum is the proud recipient of a Canada 150 Garden Experience designation, awarded by the Canadian Garden Council in collaboration with the Canadian Nursery Landscape Association on March 13, 2017 in Ottawa. “In celebration of Canada’s sesquicentennial, 150 gardens and garden experiences across the country were jury-selected to receive the Canada 150 Garden Experience designation.” This is an enormous honour for the Museum and is owed entirely to our dedicated garden volunteers and the Dartmouth Horticultural Society who make our gardens the wonderful experience that they are. Farm Museum ranks #2 amongst 67 community museums in Nova Scotia

The summer of 2016 was an evaluation year for 67 community museums located across Nova Scotia.  The evaluation is a requirement of the Community Museum Assistance Program, administered by the Department of Communities, Culture and Heritage.  It was conducted in partnership with the Association of Nova Scotia Museums using teams of industry professionals from a variety of museological backgrounds.  The evaluation assesses all areas of operations including Governance, Management, Facility, Collections and Access to Information, Interpretation, Marketing and Revenue Generation and Community.  The Farm Museum’s resulting score was the second highest in the program and saw the greatest increase of any institution. Farmer for a Day 2016

Another very successful Farmer for a Day program was held at the Farm Museum September 20 to 22 in partnership with the Department of Agriculture.  This event gives 360 grade 3 students from area elementary schools an opportunity to learn about modern day farming directly from industry representatives.  What a fun program! 2016 Summer Employment Opportunities

All summer employment positions are dependent upon successful government funding and all applicants must have been a full time student in the term immediately preceding the summer and be returning to full time studies in the term immediately following.
