Introduction to Blacksmithing Workshop! (October)

Cole Harbour Heritage Farm Museum 471 Poplar Drive, Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada

Join us at the Cole Harbour Heritage Farm Museum for a one day “Introduction to Blacksmithing”. The workshop takes place inside our historic Blacksmith Shop, a working shop developed within one of the site’s original heritage barns. The workshop gets underway at 9am. You’ll start with a brief presentation by the Blacksmith (fresh coffee provided!) on the process of blacksmithing and the role of the Blacksmith in the community. Once you’ve completed the presentation you will head to the forge where, under the instruction and guidance of the Blacksmith, you will create your own project to take home (project has been pre-selected to optimize learning outcomes). Soap Making Workshop (March)

Cole Harbour Heritage Farm Museum 471 Poplar Drive, Cole Harbour, Nova Scotia, Canada

A two-part artisan soap making workshop on Friday, March 22, 6 – 9 pm and Saturday, March 23, 6 – 7 pm will feature Nova Scotian soap maker Maggie Jenkins of Saltmarsh Soaps. Maggie has dedicated over 6 years to learning and mastering the craft. “The aspect of soap making that keeps me interested, is that every batch can be customized to what you want to create, you have complete control over the ingredients, the design, and the process from start to finish. I never get bored!” Participants will be taught everything they need to know to safely make their own cold process soaps from scratch. Attendees will learn about scenting, using natural additives and how to source their own raw ingredients from suppliers. Fibre Frolic 2024

Join us for sheep shearing, a colourful fibre marketplace, hands-on demonstrations, a wool discovery area for kids, and the frolic grill! Try a new craft, talk to fibre artisans, meet the sheep, and find the right materials for your next creation. ~ Fun, family-friendly event! ~ Free parking! ~ Free admission! Fibre Frolic

Join us Saturday, May 31st, 2025, for our annual Fibre Frolic event where we celebrate all things woolly!  There will be sheep shearing demonstrations by Nova Scotian Sheep Shearer Peter Kozier, a colorful marketplace, some hands on demonstrations, as well as our Frolic Grill serving up delicious local sausages! This event is a great family event and an opportunity to try something new, meet to local artisans, find some inspiration for your next craft, and learn about the art of sheep shearing!
