Another season has come and gone, and we are ready to buckle down and begin planning for next season! Most of the animals have returned home, to their farms. The sheep, however, continue to roam the pastures (though not for much longer – the temperature is dropping quickly!), and the farm will remain home to our chickens and ducks. We are excited to announce that the Cole Harbour Rural Heritage Society and Museum has been selected as one of four panelists to speak at The Documentary Heritage Communities Program in Ottawa. The Cole Harbour Heritage Farm Museum is pleased to partner with Sisterhood Fibres to deliver the first annual Cole Harbour Fibre Frolic. Admission is free to this family-friendly event. Demonstrations and vendors will be on-site from 10:00am to 4:00pm. Demonstrations will include spinning, weaving, felting and knitting! Vendors will showcase fibre arts, fibre animals and other small farming ventures with a focus on fibre products. If you are interested in participating, please contact the farm. “Feed the Farm” is back; our annual crowdsourcing campaign to help us to maintain our farm animal program. Now in its 4th year, this campaign goes a long way toward covering our animal program costs; feed, transport, bedding, housing and other essential care. The Farm believes in the value of keeping farm animals in the public eye; for education, interpretation and enjoyment. We also believe in the importance of spreading awareness of these animals’ natural behaviours and personalities. This is made possible be ensuring access to adequate space and fresh air, play and stimulation, comfortable quarters, optimum nutrition and the company of their own kind.
